Understanding The Basics About Invisalign

Invisalign is an alternative to traditional metal braces. Instead of using metal wires, rubber bands, and brackets to adjust the position of your teeth, this treatment uses a series of smooth, thin, transparent plastic “aligners,” which look sort of like a retainer.

Each aligner is typically worn for about 2 weeks for 20-22 hours per day. As you wear the aligner, it will push your teeth toward the proper position, gently correcting your smile and your bite without the need for braces.

With Invisalign at The Good Dentist, just about anyone can improve their smile and their bite without needing to wear bulky, uncomfortable metal braces.

Benefits of Invisalign

Compared to alternative treatments like braces, Invisalign has a lot of great benefits. Firstly and perhaps most importantly, it’s completely invisible when worn. Your Invisalign aligners won’t affect your appearance or your speech at all, so nobody has to know that you’re wearing aligners unless you want them to know.

In addition, Invisalign is more comfortable than braces. There are no sharp metal components to irritate your gums, lips, or tongue, and Invisalign uses gentle, even pressure to correct the position of your teeth.

Your Invisalign aligners are also removable, which means you can brush and floss more effectively, and there are no dietary restrictions, making your treatment much more convenient compared to braces.

Finally, Invisalign usually takes about a year for most patients. This is faster than braces, which may take up to 12-18 months or longer, depending on your case. Note, however, that each patient is different, so your Invisalign treatment could be longer or shorter than 12 months.

Good Candidates For Invisalign

As long as your mouth is healthy and free of major oral health issues like gum disease and tooth decay, you are likely a good candidate for Invisalign treatment. You must address any serious oral health issues before you can get orthodontic treatment at The Good Dentist.

In addition, Invisalign is typically recommended only for patients who have minor-to-moderate issues with crooked/crowded teeth or their bite alignment. If you have very serious orthodontic problems, traditional metal braces will likely be a better alternative, since they are more versatile and can be used to treat almost any orthodontic issue.

To find out if you’re a good candidate for Invisalign, just contact The Good Dentist for a consultation with Dr. Max Meinerz or Dr. Ostromecki. At your appointment, you can learn more about treatment, see if you’re a candidate, and start working toward a straighter, healthier smile right away.
